PC Passport was the first lesson of the day and what we did was research the following:
- Internet
- Modem
- Dial up connection
- ISDN - Intergrated Services Digital Network
- ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (Getting good at this)
- Broadband
- ISP - Internet Service Provider
- Web Browser
- URL - Uniform Resource Locator, previously Universal Resource Locator
- Bandwidth
- Firewall
- Antivirus Software
- Cookies (not the lovely sweet kind)
- Intranet
- www - World Wide Web
- FTP - File Transfer Protocol
Then after lunch we had Web Design Fundamentals, where we discussed about different websites currently on the web. Then we split ourselves into groups and chose a website that we frequently used and come up with 5 advantages and disadvantages. Paul and I chose youtube.com and these are the results:
Good
- Like the layout, very easy to find vids.
- Simple and easy to use
- Gets people to share and experiment
- Good to use when you're bored
- Achmed the dead terrorist
Bad
- Takes ages to load vids
- Pictures aren't always clear
- General colour scheme is a bit dull
- You get the odd load of rubbish
- (Please write your answers on a postcard if you can think of a 5th)
After that we learned how to do our webpages, which I found really interesting, and was quite impressed on how letters and numbers can make up a brightly colur webpage.
